Footing takeoffs in 25 minutes: a workflow that actually works

Most footing takeoffs take 2–3 hours because the estimator is doing the same job four times. Here's the workflow concrete estimators are using to cut that to under 30 minutes — without giving up accuracy.

A 200,000 SF distribution center has roughly 240 isolated spread footings, 1,800 LF of strip footings, and 80 grade beams. If you're taking those off in a generic tool, you're doing four passes:

1. Count the footings. 2. Measure each one for size. 3. Calculate concrete CY by hand. 4. Calculate rebar tonnage by hand.

That's 2–3 hours of your bid day, and any addendum sends you back to step one. There's a better way.

Open the foundation plan. Two-point calibration on the longest dimension you can see — usually a column line. Done. Every measurement now has true scale.
