What generic estimating tools don't do for concrete contractors

Generic estimating platforms are powerful, but they're built for everybody. Here's what 'everybody' means for a concrete estimator.

Most takeoff and estimating platforms are built for the general case. That makes sense — drywall, MEP, framing, and finishes are larger markets than concrete. The platforms have to serve everybody.

Generic platforms ship with empty assembly libraries. You're going to spend the first 40 hours of ownership building your standard footing, slab, wall, pier, and column assemblies from scratch. That's fine if you have the time. Most contractors don't.

The pier tool in a generic platform is a count tool. Bedrock's pier tool draws a true-scale circle from the assembly's diameter. Different abstraction.

In a generic platform, rebar is a separate scope you wire up with formulas you write. In Bedrock, every concrete assembly carries its own rebar schedule by default. Stem walls have horizontal and vertical and ties and hooks. Footings have top mat and bottom mat and dowels. Out of the box.
