When estimators talk about rebar accuracy, they usually mean spacing and bar size. Lap splices barely come up. That's where the money leaks.

A typical commercial slab-on-grade plus footings will run 30–40 tons of #4 and #5 bar. Get the lap rule wrong by even 6 inches per splice, and you're off by 4–9% on tonnage. On a $1.4M concrete bid, that's $35K–$80K of rebar you either ate or left on the table.

They lap once per length even when the bar run requires two laps.
